This is the Psychiatric Times’ recent take on Lyrica: for what it’s worth …
Did you continue taking the drug? Why or why not?
Lyrica – maybe one of the best Orwellian double-speak brand names ever; lyrical, calm, soothing. I have an interest in this drug on two counts. My mother suffered from trimengial neuralgia, one of the worst head-pains possible.
Withdrawal is never comfortable, but sometimes it can actually be dangerous. to be completed successfully with minimal side-effects and risk to the patient.
If you can't get off your pills or w/e drug you begin with cold turkey and have to go to a monitored clinic, do it, but i'd suggest staying on a low dose of methadone. You control your dosage and treatment there, don't let them make you think otherwise. Stay low, and long enough for your body to adjust, then when you feel mentally ready, start lowering down to 5mg or less, and slowly come off to nothing. Stay with the program and you'll be fine, if done correctly the withdrawals although somewhat long lasting, are not as acute as others such as "Suboxone".
There are side effects from taking methadone and other opioids, such as.. For the people with sleep issues coming off long term opiates,.. I finally found a pain management doctor that took me off of oxycodone and put me.
Wishing you well, Pat.
Hi Leena, Thank you for sharing you story. I can’t imagine dealing with the loss of a child and all of the problems you have had over the years. You are amazingly resilient. I’m not sure I have a great answer for your question about coming off of methadone, but I’m wondering if you could find an addiction psychiatrist with a pain management background who could help you figure this out. You definiy need an expert who can guide you in making a safe decision who is local to you and knowledgeable about addiction and pain management.
Myth #4: Methadone rots teeth and bones.
Often far worse than the likes of Xanax or Oxycodone. on Effexor for a long time you just can't just stop taking it abruptly and not expect to have side effects.
Don’t worry you won’t feel any different than using the capsules—I switched from the capsules to the tablets). The only difference is that you will take one half of your tablet dose in the morning and twelve hours later take the second half of your dose. Switching from XR to IR shouldn’t cause you to feel any different as long as you keep taking the same mg dosages.
To have MINIMAL withdrawals it is best practice to cut dosage at a rate of between 5-10% at a time. No more than that.
It cannot fully “fix the situation” in 24 hours – or in Effexor’s case about 2 weeks for acute withdrawals.
They will understand withdrawal side effects better than anyone. Reply I changed from morphine to fentanyl patch, to oxycodone and back to.
