Makers of OxyContin Concealed Its Addictive Nature

We now know that OxyContin is a dangerous, highly addictive painkiller that has turned normal, law-abiding Americans into “hillbilly” heroin.

Fed up with these executives and their flouting of the law, the feds shifted focus to prosecuting individuals, hoping that the threat of prison might be enough to make them behave. On the state level, however, officials are hoping to recoup the millions of dollars lost on the OxyContin myth.

The investigation into the mismarketing of OxyContin is novel in that it did not begin with prosecutors hoping to impose civil fines on a pharmaceutical company that engaged in wrongdoing. Instead, the government wanted to put those responsible in jail.

Kentucky claims that the company initially made the chart as part of a study conducted in the 1990s in an attempt to compare the efficacies of both a time-released and immediate-release version of the drug.

Kentucky Takes Purdue Pharma to Court over OxyContin Addiction

The state of Kentucky is continuing to fight OxyContin manufacturer Purdue Pharma in state court. Multiple states also filed lawsuits against Purdue, and the cases were consolidated to federal court, according to USA Today. Purdue attempted to have the lawsuit moved out of Pike.

Kentucky’s portion of the settlement was only $500,000, so the state opted out and decided to pursue charges on its own.

Combs faced controversy of his own. The judge was temporarily suspended after being charged with 10 claims of misconduct. Charges included office misconduct and inappropriate communications including calling Pikeville officials derogatory names.

The lack of response would make it much easier for Kentucky to win the case, but Purdue said the deadline shouldn’t have restarted automatically.

the reason I am wondering if MS Contin or MSRI can show up as OXY is that these two meds are the only ones I take, also I am highly allergic to OXY.

Percocet is oxycodone mixed with acetaminophen.
