Oxycodone Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets are an opioid agonist and a Schedule II controlled substance with an abuse liability similar to morphine.

Oxycodone causes miosis, even in total darkness. Pinpoint pupils are a sign of opioid overdose but are not pathognomonic (e.g., pontine lesions of hemorrhagic or ischemic origin may produce similar findings). Marked mydriasis rather than miosis may be seen with hypoxia in the setting of oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release tablets overdose (See OVERDOSAGE ).

Drug addiction is characterized by compulsive use, use for non-medical purposes, and continued use despite harm or risk of harm.

OXYCODONE HCl EXTENDED-RELEASE TABLETS expose patients and other users to the risks of opioid addiction, abuse and misuse, which can lead to overdose and death. Serious, life-threatening, or fatal respiratory depression may occur with use of OXYCODONE HCl EXTENDED-RELEASE TABLETS.

​ The following dosing information is for use only in pediatric patients 11 years and older already receiving and tolerating opioids for at least five consecutive days. For the two days immediay preceding dosing with OXYCODONE HCl EXTENDED-RELEASE TABLETS, patients must be taking a minimum of 20 mg per day of oxycodone or its equivalent.

Er refers to extended release. ER oxycodone is slowly released over 12 hours allowing a consistent flow of the painkiller to your tissues and.

CR refers to controlled release. Oxycontin is another name for oxycodone. This drug too is slowly released over time to provide a consistent does of the pain killer.

Thus if you chew them and take in all the pain killer at once you can actually overdose on them (!). Because they were developed to be released over a long period of time they contain higher than normal levels of the painkiller. You have to be careful not to chew either of these.
