Medical reports concluded that the death resulted from an overdose of oxycodone and alprazolam, another drug frequently prescribed by RAMIREZ and distributed by COONEY.

The following allegations are based on the Complaint unsealed today in White Plains federal court.

Late in 2007, Chris George, a 27-year-old former convict with no medical training, opened his first pain pill clinic in South Florida. With no laws to stop him, George and his twin brother, Jeff, were about to become kingpins, running pills up and down I-75 — quickly dubbed.

Essentially synthetic heroin in pill form, oxycodone alters the perception of pain while decreasing anxiety and elevating mood.

The state had no centralized prescription database. Anyone could open a pain-pill clinic — no license or authorization required — and doctors were legally permitted to sell drugs directly to patients. For the George twins, Florida was the best place to open pain clinics.

New twist in addiction crisis Deadly painkiller impostors

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities are sounding the alarm about a new and deadly twist in the country's drug-addiction crisis in the form of a potent painkiller disguised as other medications. Tennessee officials say they've seen two dozen cases in recent months of pills marked.

Despite these statistics and the danger of lookalike pills, addicts aren't always deterred, said Rendon, the acting U.S. attorney.

Lookalike pills were likely to blame for some of the county's 19 fentanyl-related overdose deaths in January alone, said Dr. Thomas Gilson, the Cuyahoga County medical examiner.

In San Francisco, the health department blamed several overdoses last summer on lookalike Xanax containing fentanyl, while Canada has issued warnings about multiple recent cases of lookalike oxycodone pills containing fentanyl.

"These pills are truly a fatal overdose waiting to happen," said Carole Rendon, acting U.S.

Crush-Proof OxyContin Pills Have Done Little To Curb America's

OxyContin's new abuse-deterrent formulation has done little to stop drug addicts from getting high off their drug of choice.

OxyContin was originally designed to release small amounts of the pain-killing drug oxycodone over time. Drug manufacturers sought to end this practice by designing a new OxyContin pill that cannot be crushed or dissolved.
